Our grand tour

Day 228 / 2nd day in the Outback

Day 2: Roma – Longreach: 700 km / 7 hrs 20

We are fascinated by the changing landscape. Trees get rarer, the grass browner, the soil redder. We see our first wild emus and lots of parrots. Towns shrink into little settlements with a roadhouse. No rain covers needed anymore from now on but fly protection would be great. As soon as you leave the car they are everywhere – in your eyes, ears, mouth and up your nose, if you let them. Get the chance to watch an episode of “married at first sight” at the campsite kitchen. At night time the flies are gone but get replaced by crickets. It’s difficult to walk without stepping on them. We see a lovely green frog.
