Our grand tour

Day 253: Burrinjuck

What a name, what a view! Once upon a time there was a lake…

That’s what we expected: a big lake with a nice forest.

But what we find is better. I love the dry and open landscape. And we seem to be the only guests at this place. But first Finn and I have to get my handbag. It takes us almost four hours to get it but by learning Latin while driving time flies by.

By the time we get back Bill and Anik have organized two fishing rods. Anik’s dream comes true! We set the boys up…

… And Bill and I go for a stroll, climb over fences, and 😂

At the end, the boys didn’t catch anything, but as Anik says: It’s not about what you catch it’s about the fun of fishing 🎣. What wise words for an eight year old. Bill tries his luck but guess it’s all the green algae that keep the number of fish low.

On the way back to our cottage I watch two red and blue parrots, which always hide behind some grass as soon as I get closer, and some kookaburras. Who can find the parrots?

Our cottage:

After dinner we set off for a night stroll. Pitch black and only the beam of the torches. Weird noises but all we see is a rabbit and a cow (that looks like a wolf, as Bill keeps saying). Anik is so scared that we have to go back soon. So the boys watch a bit of telly and Bill and I explore the campsite. It’s more privat huts that haven’t been used in ages. Spooky, but fun.
