Our grand tour

Day 167: Pancake Rocks and Blowholes

Greymouth isn’t as grey as its name anymore as the sun is shining again. Don’t want to leave my bed though, it’s too comfortable. By the time we leave the hostel it’s already one o’clock.

After a short stroll through town and off we go again. For about 30 km, then a big bang, a rattle and a flat tyre. Stuck beside the road, we unloaded the car and Finn, Bill and two phone calls with the previous owner managed to sort it out again. Where is the nearest petrol station? Of course all the way back again to Greymouth. It’s three o’clock now and we start our tour for the second time. Our destination: the Pancake Rocks – a special geographic feature where layers of limestone and clay minerals were pushed up and eroded at variating speed.

We don’t get as far as we wanted today so we pitch the tent not far from the rocks. I really have enough of pitching tents, rearranging the car, camping food and sandflies. And of course sleeping in the car without pillow. That’s the next thing I have to buy.
