Our grand tour

Day 197 – 202: the Coromandel

With a nicely functioning rental car and in good spirits we left Louise and Steven for the Coromandel peninsula. Opoutere was recommended to us by the car owner, so why not try it out. And we loved it so much that we decided to stay for the entire six nights that we had planned for this trip although we moved twice on the site itself. Anik found a really good friend to play cricket with and try the stand-up paddle board and kajaks that were for free. He went brigde jumping, on a forest walk and swam in the sea with Ari. What a disappointment when Ari and his family had to leave on Sunday… Poor fellow didn’t know what to do with himself after they left. But he managed to enjoy himself again especially when he found a functioning fishing line.

We loved the beach and the way through the old pine forest to the beach. I found the shells again which I need for my project. Yeah. It was really special to collect them in the moonlight as they reflected the moon like stars on the beach. Ah, these little wonders that life can offer when you let it.

We got to know a lovely German family. Her sister lives in Sonthofen…. How small the world sometimes seems to be. So we will meet them again.
