After a morning packing up and saying goodbyes we hit the road again. We are all ready for some more adventures. What a pleasure driving the Lexus.
The landscape and vegetation is very different from New Zealand. It’s flat and dryer and scattered with high eucalyptus forests. We passed some long sand dunes along the coast hitting north.
Our first stop are the Myall lakes. Just made it to the last ferry – a tiny one with only us as passengers… And the campsite is surrounded by lakes on three sides. Wild big kangaroos are hopping around – our jaws dropped when we saw them first, and you get the feeling that you are deep in the bush. The next day, as Bill is suffering from a blocked nose (which he has been having for four days now) and exhaustion there is not much program. The boys are delighted to spend most of their time in the pool and I enjoy the surrounding. Saw a big goanna with Anik and later this day with Bill a Kookaburra..

Late afternoon a thunderstorm rolled in starting with growling and lightning and then came the rain. It rained and rained and we pretty soon had to face the fact that our borrowed tent was not waterproof. Luckily we had air mattresses so it wasn’t wet from the bottom. The boys had the choice to either sleep in the car, and suffocate or to sleep in a half wet tent. They chose the second option, so us three were squeezed together hoping for the rain to stop… Luckily it did.
