Our grand tour

Day 231 / 5th day in the Outback

Day 5: Tennant Creek – Alice Springs: 500 km / 5 hrs 30

Finally a shorter day and it turns out to be the most interesting one too.

Shortly after Tennant Creek we pass the Devil’s Marbles where we stop for a game of bowling..

But 36°C don’t keep us long so we head on to Australia’s UFO centre. Unfortunately it’s not holiday season for alians, so we don’t see any real ones …

Just shortly before Alice Springs we almost kill two wild horses (a white and a brown one) or they almost killed us as they run out in front of us onto the road. Thanks to Bill’s excellent driving and the gods we manage to pass between them almost touching the brown horse’s arse. After the incident we are all fully awake.

Alice Springs looks inviting enough for us to go for a little stroll after a dip in the pool. But just after sunset we felt like turning around not even having reached the centre. But once again quite a few lost Aborigines, some begging for money don’t really create a safe atmosphere.

We run into some Indians celebrating one of their religious days. They invite us to dinner at their open party. Bill and Finn can’t be persuaded but free Indian food can’t keep me and Anik away..
