Our grand tour

Day 232 / 6th day in the Outback

Day 6: Alice Springs – Uluru: 470 km / 5 hrs 45

Today we will reach our destination. Before we hit the road again we have a little stroll through Alice Springs. It’s a nice, tidy little town, which makes you forget you are in the desert. I loose and find my wallet again, Anik finally gets his Australian birds book but we forget to fill up our food supplies.

The drive feels short. Our first camel beside the road – but is it wild? I don’t think so. We take a quick break at a roadhouse where hungry emus are waiting for treats…

And can’t wait to see the big rock. We are so eager that we mistake Mount Conner for it. Fake Uluru – and we fall for it. But enjoyed the photo shoot anyway.

But we do finally arrive at the Uluru Campsite. No more sightseeing today though, as we are going to do it all with Peter.

The nights are so hot at the moment, it hardly drops below 30°C degrees. Great for a little stroll to the lookout with Bill after the kids are in bed. The moon, stars and Uluru in the far back..
