Our grand tour

Day 235/236: King’s Canyon

Goodbye Peter, we have to drop you at the airport again. And for us it’s time to head on. Luckily it’s just a short drive: four hours and 305 km. It’s a lovely cheap campsite and of course the pool is the main attraction. No sightseeing today. But the drive itself offers a lot to see.

The heat wave is over. Daytime temperatures are in the early 30 and nighttime temperatures between 15 and 25 °C.

The next day we get up at half past five. It’s still dark but at least half of the campsite is already awake. We want to do the rim walk around King’s Canyon. It’s much more exciting than Uluru as it’s up and down and around rocks, over gaps and ladders, once on top of a 100 m cliff, then in the “garden of Eden”, a waterhole at the bottom of the canyon. Four hours pass quickly, fortunately it’s not as hot as on our last walk and we all have an adventurous and enjoyable time. Amazing what water can create – especially in an arid region.
