Our grand tour

Day 275: Simon’s Town & the penguins

Today we hire a car. It’s a Hyundai i10 in red. Bill can’t believe it’s turning out to be a mini toy car again.

The plan: Cape of Good Hope. On the way there we stop in Simon’s Town for lunch – the best fish ‘n’ chips – and enjoy the promenade.

The next stop is Boulders Beach to eat some ice-cream and see the penguins. You had to pay to go down to the edge of the beach to join the crowd of tourists but the penguins are everywhere on the little coastal walk – and hardly any tourists. The beaches look amazing though.

Next stop is the Cape. By the time we get there it turns out to be too late to enter the park and enjoy some quality time there. So we give it a miss and decide to take the other coastal road back and make some stops on the way. It felt like being back in the west of Ireland.
