The plan: Bill is being picked up at 8 a.m. to get the car with our guide Eneaus. Then pick us up, load the car and hopefully hit the road at 9:30 / 10 a.m. Stock up our food and off to Sesriem which should take us about four to five hours. In the afternoon we set up our tents and visit Sesriem Canyon.
Sounds great, but reality is different: We are up early and ready by eight. At 8:30 we receive a phone call from Eneaus that he will come and pick us up after collecting the car. 15 minutes later he arrives without a car collects Bill. At 9:30 they are back. Just by looking at the car I know it’s too small for us five. It’s a Kia Sportage. But Eneaus still believes it’s all good. So we pack it up and fill the boot with our stuff. At 11 we head off to pick up the camping equipment. That’s when everybody has to admit that the car is too small. After a lot of head shaking we decide to hire a trailer. Three hours later we leave Windhoek.
We are finally on the road! The landscape is fascinating and we see a lot of animals: Baboons (Paviane), Springbocks, Impalas, Oryx antilopes, Zebras, Ostriches and a Secretary bird.
Unfortunately we arrive at Sesriem Campsite after dark. So tents up, cook dinner, eat and off to bed…
What a day! It can only get better – I hope…
