Our plan, made the evening before as everything by now has changed anyway: leave Khorixas, stop over at the petrified forest head on to Opuwo.
Reality: Looking at the map, the petrified forest is canceled straight away, it’s too far to Opuwo. We take a breathtaking sideroad, enjoy the scenery and the new car, although there is far less space and comfort on the backseats. It’s amazing how fast the landscape changes in Namibia.
After driving for hours with a stop at a lodge where we have our snack – no, no luxery here, we eat our leftovers in the carpark – I have the feeling that Eneas is getting nervous. When I approach him, he says that we might have missed a turn off. It turns out to be a four hour detour and it’s getting dark by the time we reach the junction. So no Opuwo today, and there won’t be tomorrow either…. 😵 We had to cheer Eneas up as he has reached his low point when we set up the tents. It’s sometimes hard to see a light in the dark.
