Our grand tour

Day 307: the mokoro trip

We decide to get onto the Okawango. And what’s better than doing it in the traditional way? In order to get to the starting point we have to drive along the dried up flood plains past donkeys, cows and goats. No, this is no place to see wildlife. I feel a bit disappointed, but the landscape is beautiful. Finally on the boat made of one stem we feel the peace and tranquility of the river. Only the boys have difficulties in holding their tongue. We see plenty of birds, beautiful water lilies and a stunning sunset.

On the way back in the car our guide apologizes for not seeing any wildlife. Just then we see a herd of elephants ahead on their way to the water… We have to wait till they’re finished drinking and head back as they block our way. A mind blowing experience, especially when we find out how lucky we were.
