Our grand tour

Day 309/310: the best campsite ever

We relax one and a half days at the campsite and enjoy every second – except Anik’s schooling -.Why do we love this place? Well, being able to watch hippos bath, play and relax in the river from the shore is breath taking.

(… and upside-down)

Being able to have a safe dip in the river feels refreshing but strange.

Free tea and coffee and the most delicious dinner in Africa so far add up.

The little special touches around the camp complete the wow-effect.

And you end up here

Even this is a toilet

And then the sunset boat trip, where we enjoy seeing even more animals

Unfortunately we have to leave this place. Our destination: all along the Caprivi Strip to the next national park. We have the choice, Mudumu NP or Nkaza Rupana NP and decide on the second one. On the way there we have to drive through Mudumu. But we get told that we are not allowed to stop and take pictures unless we pay the park fee. That is okay as we are running late. We speed past a herd of about 30 elephants. Right beside the road to the right we spot about 20 of them. As we slow down faszinated how many and how close they are we almost forget to look left. There’s a huge male elephant flapping his ears threatening us to keep going not even five meters away. The other five didn’t look happy either. We are caught by surprise that we just head on digesting what we just saw.

Quite late, just at sunset we arrive at a very basic campsite in the middle of nowhere.
