Early start, pack up, have breakfast and watch a vain hornbill before we head off.
This is our last game drive, so it has to be special. And it is… At the gate we have to deal with the most unfriendly, impatient assistant in the history of Namibian tourism. Promising signs at the gate…
We drive around for three hours and see nothing but two elephants. The dirt tracks are really in a bad shape and on the way back – or is it the way back? – we get lost: Tracks end suddenly, others are hardly visible, unsigned junctions, we get frustrated and impatient. Just get us out of here. Enough game drives! We are all so relieved when we hit the tarmac road again. Another two and a half hours drive with a shebeen stop on the way before we reach Chobe River Camp, right at the border to Botswana. (shebeen = a little semi legal road side drinking hole).
Again, what a spot we end up in. Right at the Chobe river looking into Botswana watching elephants and antilopes. Who needs game drives?
